Clean River Action Statement on the Severn Trent Community Information Event

Clean River Action is aware of the upcoming Severn Trent–organised community information event in Knighton Park.

While we support residents having access to information about their local rivers, it is important to be clear about the nature of this event and our position.

This event is a PR and marketing exercise designed to control the narrative around river pollution and present Severn Trent’s preferred version of events.

It is not an independently facilitated accountability session, nor does it provide the level of transparency communities deserve.

Clean River Action is an independent community organisation. We do not co‑host, endorse, or participate in water‑company‑led public relations events.

Our work is rooted in citizen science, transparent evidence, and holding polluters to account and not supporting corporate messaging.

We are currently awaiting full Environmental Information Regulation (EIR) responses from both the Environment Agency and Severn Trent for both Knighton Park incidents.

These responses relate to monitoring, spill data, enforcement actions, and site‑specific issues. Once received, we will publish the full documents so the community can see the evidence directly, without filtering or interpretation.

Recent Clean River Action testing at Knighton Park has shown issues that do not align with Severn Trent’s public narrative.

Across multiple sampling sessions in recent weeks, volunteers recorded elevated nutrient levels, persistent phosphate spikes, and indicators of chronic pollution pressure inconsistent with claims of improvement. These findings will be included in our next public briefing.

Residents attending the event may wish to keep in mind:

• Water‑company presentations are not independently audited.

• Regulatory enforcement remains inconsistent, leaving communities reliant on their own evidence.

• Local citizen‑science data continues to show impacts not reflected in corporate narratives.

We encourage residents to ask direct, specific questions about spill duration, overflow frequency, monitoring accuracy, enforcement actions, and discrepancies between company claims and independent data, and to request written answers wherever possible.

Clean River Action will continue providing independent, community‑led analysis of river health across Leicester and Leicestershire.

We remain committed to transparent evidence, citizen science, and empowering local people with information free from corporate influence.
