Our Principles: Independence & Transparency

Clean River Action is independent.

We do not participate in water‑company stakeholder programmes, engagement teams or controlled communication channels. Our responsibility is to the public, not to corporate interests.

1. Independence from Corporate Influence

We avoid engagement structures designed for relationship‑management rather than transparency. Our work is shaped by river conditions and community needs, never by corporate messaging.

2. Formal, Written, Public‑Interest Communication

For matters involving pollution, river health or regulatory compliance, we use Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) requests, published correspondence and auditable reporting. These processes protect the community’s right to know.

3. Transparency as a Core Duty

We publish our data, evidence, questions and, where appropriate, the responses we receive. Transparency is a democratic principle that underpins public trust and environmental protection.

4. Community First

We represent residents, volunteers and river users. We are not intermediaries for regulated bodies; we are here to support communities in understanding, monitoring and defending their rivers.

5. Evidence Above Opinion

Our positions are grounded in data, documented observations and regulatory standards. Independence allows us to report findings honestly, without pressure to soften or dilute what the evidence shows.

6. Accountability Without Fear or Favour

We hold all organisations, public or private, to the same standards of accuracy and environmental responsibility.

7. Public Ownership of River Health

Rivers belong to communities. We help residents build the knowledge, confidence and tools needed to protect the waterways they care about.
