Leicester & Leicestershire CSO Map – Overview

The Leicester & Leicestershire CSO Map brings together publicly available data, citizen‑science observations, and verified incident reports to show where Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs) are located across the region. These outfalls are designed to release sewage during heavy rainfall, but increasing evidence shows they are discharging far more frequently, often during dry weather.

This map is part of Clean River Action’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and public access to environmental information. Each marker represents a known CSO location, with additional layers showing pollution hotspots, river sections under pressure, and areas where community monitoring is underway.

Why This Map Matters

Understanding where sewage enters our rivers is essential for protecting wildlife, safeguarding public health, and ensuring regulators and water companies are held to account. By making this information accessible, we empower residents, campaigners, and local decision‑makers to see the scale of the issue and take informed action.

Citizen Science Monitoring

Clean River Action is actively testing water quality across the River Soar, River Sence, and local tributaries. These tests help identify pollution spikes, track changes over time, and highlight areas where CSO discharges may be impacting river health.

The map will continue to evolve as new data is added and community monitoring expands.
