Community Update: Knighton Park July 2026

Knighton Park- urgent community update

We’ve just been to the brook in Knighton Park (Tuesday 21st July 2026) and the sewage pollution is happening again, in dry weather, at the exact same spot as earlier this year.

The water stinks, there is sewage fungus, and children were playing in the water downstream.

We also tested the water while we were there and the results show:

• Phosphate: 33.7 mg/l- extremely high, showing a strong wastewater/nutrient source.

• Ammonia: 0.3 mg/l- higher than a healthy brook, indicating sewage influence.

• Nitrate: 40 mg/L- very high, showing long‑term pollution.

• pH: 8- typical of detergent or greywater.

• Turbidity- poor.

These readings match exactly what we’re seeing, ongoing foul/grey-water contamination, not a healthy brook.

Earlier this year the Environment Agency confirmed this was foul sewage from a manhole overflowing into the brook, but because the asset isn’t a “permitted storm overflow”, the incident didn’t count as a dry‑day spill. That means it didn’t appear in national dry‑weather spill statistics.

Today’s repeat pollution shows the consequences of that gap, the brook is again carrying foul water in dry weather, and families are being exposed to it.

We need your help:

• If you were in Knighton Park today and noticed the smell or the discoloured water, please comment.

• If your children were playing in the brook, please let us know privately, your experience matters.

Clean River Action has escalated this with the Environment Agency, STW, and local representatives.

Knighton Park belongs to the community, and we deserve a brook that is safe, clean, and protected.
